The following case studies give some examples from our own experience of how schools and alliances are starting to use R&D to enhance teaching and learning:

  • Developing a new 'child friendly' method for teaching division in primary mathematics

  • Investigating the impact of student involvement in negotiating 'professional standards' on students' perceptions of and adherence to ground rules

  • Examining the impact of mindfulness techniques on working memory and pupil learning

  • Escafeld TSA: laying the cultural foundations for R&D across a newly designated alliance

R&D Primary and Secondary Case Studies

The R&D Kitbag provides useful information and guidance on setting up and delivery of practitioner research produced by a team of seven teaching schools for the National College in 2012. To accompany the R&D Kitbag, the team produced a number of case studies of primary and secondary schools to illustrate what schools can achieve in relation to research engagement.  As those involved observe, case studies of this kind can be inspirational and provide a source for tracking back to a useful starting point.
